I don't know what's this kind of bag called, and whoever had the idea of making this is Epic, but I shall call it:
The Bag Book
Because when you have that Huge McHeavy Book or worse than that and your arms ache when carrying it, plus the inconvenience that it gives you since its over the top that it covers half of your body. this I bet will help a lot.
The idea of this is covering the front and back page of the book with a cloth and putting a handle by stitching on its ends so that it holds the whole thing. This is the front cover of the photo it looks like its a plain shoulder bag but actually that is a book once you see its side but for this unfortunately I forgot to take a picture while its in my possession that's why I asked the owner now of this book to take a photo for my blog which she did it obligingly. :)
while making it I really had no idea on which part should I do first, the handle, the cover, or the design but I decided to the biggest organ which is the cover skin.
1. I measured the book on its original height and width and I add a little allowance of half an inch in case she wanted to use it in some other thicker books.
2. now, once you got all the measurements right, trace it on the cloth, this one I used is canvas for strong hold. and give a 2 and a half inch allowance to the front and back cover because that would be the part where you'd insert the covers.
and we don't want to actually stitch it on the book.
3. did a back stitch on the edges until all of it are done.
4. now the 2 and a half allowance that I mentioned you're going to fold that in up to the original width of the book. then stitch the top and the bottom.
5. for the handle, measure the whole width of the book because that would be the length of your handle. for its width, 1 and a half inch is fine, its your preference actually.
6.attach it to the cover leave at least an inch from the corners and from there start stitching firmly. the stitch that I made was the normal zigzag around the base of the handle.
7. then you can now put designs that you want to incorporate with. may it be the theme of that book or whatever... for this one I covered the whole canvas with white paint and made a tiny polka dots and added the nick name of the owner using gold studs.
This is my Prototype of this kind of bag. I don't even make bags, it just happened since it partly cover-the-notebook thing which is what I do.
seeing the finished product, honestly I am not totally confident on it since those polka dots are not perfect circles, and the studs are not lined. on the other side, i think its not that bad for making it the first time, right? haha! and I hope this is not my last time making it. :)
